Dozens of volunteers pitched in a helping hand gathering waste from the river and the shorelines for the Annual Mississippi River Clean Up event Saturday morning.
Mississippi River Clean Up day has been an event that isn’t new to the area. The yearly clean up has been happening for more than twenty years.
Boats were out on the water helping with the clean up process as volunteers gathered garbage bags full of waste. There were even larger items found in the bottom of the river which included, chairs, barrels, and even bicycles.
For many volunteers, although surprised at the waste they were pulling out of the river…coming out to this event every year gives them hope Mississippi Clean Up Day will educate the public on taking care of our environment.
After the volunteers finished cleaning up the Mississippi River, they enjoyed lunch at Copeland Park and also received a t-shirt for helping at today’s event.
